(N/A)TURAL W0RLD/F10W AND F1UX
Oct 2025
Co-curated exhibition at Columbia's Postcrypt Art Gallery
(N/A)tural W0r1d / F10w and F1ux is a student art exhibition that bridges together technology, especially technology-based art, with ecological themes and concerns. Inspired by Columbia alumni and art historian T. J. Demos's recent publication Radical Futurisms: Ecologies of Collapse, Chronopolitics, and Justice-to-Come, which calls for the alliance of all people to resist the dictating narrative of a seemingly inescapable end-of-the-world, this exhibition revitalizes the resilience of the anxious generation Z that had a brief period without cellphones before growing into an increasingly technologized and homogenized life. In it, student artists from Columbia College, Barnard College, Pratt Institute and New York University re-imagine the environments they were once familiar with. From autobiographical videos to monochrome photography and digital art, to name only a few of the diverse approaches taken, these student artists challenge the boundaries of artistic genres—exploring the natural versus the artificial to create undefinable presences—reminding us of art's openness and productiveness in a time of a singular life, a singular world.
